Practice Areas

DISCRIMINATION

Employment discrimination occurs when an employer takes adverse action against an employee or creates a hostile work environment for workers because of their membership in one or more protected groups. Employment discrimination violates federal, state, and local laws. We help employees fight back against discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, gender, disability (including perceived disability), age, family responsibilities, and membership in other protected groups.

RETALIATION

Unlawful retaliation occurs when an employer takes adverse action against an employee because that employee engaged in protected activity such as complaining about, reporting, or “blowing the whistle” on unlawful conduct at work; talking about their pay or advocating for more equitable pay; advocating on behalf of others at work who may be experiencing discrimination or retaliation; participating in a workplace investigation; or testifying truthfully under oath.

TRIAL PRACTICE

At Marcuse Law LLC the vast majority of our cases settle before litigation, let alone trial. Nevertheless, as enthusiastic trial lawyers, we gladly partner with other practitioners who need a fresh set of eyes and creative strategies when heading for trial before judges or juries.

SPEAKING & WRITING

A close reader of texts who studied intellectual and social history before becoming a lawyer, Deborah sees teaching as a core part of her work both within and outside the law. She loves to make complex ideas accessible to diverse audiences through writing articles, offering continuing legal education presentations, and other speaking engagements.
